Privacy Policy

What we collect and why

• Account information. Your email, display name, chess rating, sign-in method, and records of accepting our terms let us create and secure your account. Google sign-in also provides your verified email and a Google account identifier.
• Saved games and learning progress. Recorded or imported moves, positions, player names and ratings, results, timing, and game-source information support your archive and Dashboard. Private backups can include review results, highlights, game-related puzzles, and practice progress.
• Plan and usage records. We record your plan, allowance periods, timezone, and coaching or import usage to apply the limits of your plan and avoid counting the same game twice.
• Support and technical information. We receive messages you send us. An in-app report includes its category, app version, platform, and any attached chess context, which may include positions, moves, or coaching messages. Our services also process connection information such as IP addresses and security events to operate reliably and prevent abuse.

Account details are needed to provide account-based features.

What happens on your device

Screen Watch uses screen-recording permission to recognize a chessboard on the display you select. That capture can include other content visible on the display. Screen images are processed locally for board recognition, rather than uploaded as a screen recording. You can stop tracking in the app or revoke permission in your operating system.

Chess engines, move analysis, and board-image recognition run locally. A supported browser connection can pass game information to the desktop app over a local connection.

Appearance preferences, saved Chess Lab setups, and standalone Puzzles collections are stored on your device. Game Review has separate, private backups for saved games and related learning records. Signing out or uninstalling the app does not itself delete your online account or its backups.

When information goes online

Account sign-in, allowance checks, private game sync, and submitted feedback use our servers. Saved game data is associated with your account; it is not published to a community feed.

Most coaching audio is bundled or cached. When online speech is needed, the text of a coaching or review message goes through our server to Speechify to generate audio. This is text-to-speech, not microphone recording.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service from abuse, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate privacy protections.

Payments

We use Stripe to securely process payments and manage subscriptions for GlassKnight. When you purchase a paid plan, your payment information is collected and processed by Stripe. GlassKnight does not receive or store your full card number or security code.

We share your account email and, where applicable, an account identifier with Stripe to connect purchases to your GlassKnight account. We receive billing information, including subscription details, invoices, and payment status, to manage your plan, provide billing support, and maintain financial records.

Cookies and tracking

We use essential authentication cookies to maintain secure sign-in sessions and local storage for app preferences and saved work. Blocking these may prevent the associated features from working.

The website does not currently load third-party advertising or analytics scripts. We do not track your activity across other websites for advertising or allow advertising partners to do so through our website. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals do not change essential account or security processing; there is no sale or advertising sharing to opt out of.

Storage, security, and retention

Our account and game database is hosted in the United States. Providers may process information in other countries. Contact us for information about the locations and transfer safeguards applicable to your information.

We use encrypted connections, restricted server access, and account-scoped access controls. No system can guarantee complete security.

We retain account and saved learning records to provide your account and archive until you request deletion. Sign-in challenges and expired sessions are cleaned up separately. We keep security, support, and any billing records for as long as needed for their purpose, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. Retention depends on the record, whether your account remains active, and applicable requirements.

Deleting a game removes its associated review data through the sync process, but does not reset usage records. Deletion can take time to reach offline devices. Local-only data and copies you export remain under your control; you may need to clear them separately. Backup copies may remain until their normal rotation.

Your choices and rights

You can update the profile details available in Settings, manage device permissions, and delete saved games in the app. To request a copy of your account data, a correction, or account deletion, email legal@glassknight.io from your account email. We may ask you to verify ownership before acting.

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may also have rights to restrict processing, receive portable data, withdraw consent, or complain to your local privacy regulator. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.

Where UK or European data protection laws apply, we rely on performing our agreement to provide account, sync, and plan features; legitimate interests to secure, maintain, and support the service; legal obligations for required records; and consent where required for optional processing. You can withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Children’s privacy

GlassKnight is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where required. Our account terms explain age and guardian requirements.

Changes to this policy

We will update the date above when this policy changes. For material changes to how we use personal information, we will provide notice through the app or account email and obtain consent where required.
